House Oswego
Durbanville, Cape Town
The refurbishment of an existing family home for friends in Durbanville.
Two focus areas:
-
Create a new home office on an unused balcony space.
-
Refurbishment and space planning of the kitchen / dining / family living spaces.
Design Considerations:
-
As this home office is for a director of a leading law firm the aim was to design a professional space which was warm & inviting.
-
Ensure the office space thoroughly considered all user needs including workspace, storage, visitors and display.
-
Emphasize the panoramic mountain views with a large corner window at the office soft seating space.
Space planning (to achieve a better flow):
-
Gaining a full understanding of all the different scenarios the spaces needed to cater for.
-
A full analysis of the existing furniture and fittings, measured, catalogued and re-positioned to achieve the flow requirements.
-
Adding new openings to allow a better connection with interior & exterior spaces.
-
Maximising of all spaces by squeezing in a small garden shed into the design.
Cost-savings:
-
We retained the existing kitchen joinery, giving it a fresh paint within the new colour palette.
-
Re-use existing furniture, inherited pieces and appliances.
-
Installing PV panels on the new extend North facing roof and battery storage for long term electricity cost-savings.
-
New LED light fittings.
